Comet visibility tomorrow

Postby [SOFW]ElectricNacho » Sat Oct 18, 2014 10:50 am

Hey guys, if your not into following space weather and updates, there is a comet in our solar system right now currently by the name of Siding Spring. Tomorrow it is supposed to have a very close encounter with Mars - about 87,000 miles. Keep in mind our moon is about 240,000 miles from Earth, so astronomical scale speaking that is extremely close. There is no collision predicted, but Mars is supposed to be engulfed in the coma of the comet. May not be visible by the naked eye, so here is a link to SLOOH which is supposed to broadcast it.

Sliding Spring Live View via SLOOH (linky)

They will start broadcasting at 2:15 pm EST tomorrow.

Enjoy!

If anyone did happen to watch this, it was pretty disappointing to me. Just some smoky looking stuff by a bright planet....
